1841 Lookup - Eyland (Completed)
« on: Sunday 09 September 07 09:39 BST (UK) »

Looking for a Mary and Myles Eyland, Mary was born c 1800 at Thorpe le Soken but no details for Myles except he was from Manningtree when he married Mary, I don't know  if Mary and Myles had any children. Mary was married previously to William Funnell so there may be her children from her previous marriage living with her.

Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, your right, details don't tally really.  Undecided

Can't see any of them on 1851.

Mary married Myles in 1834 at Thorpe le Soken, parish register had Myles as being from Manningtree and a widower but no occupation on the register.

Would you expect them to be on the 1851 census, or would they might have emigrated before then?

I know that Mary stayed in England so I am hoping to be able to find her on the census.

John Burton Funnell is Mary's son and with a half sister living with him it looks like Mary has moved out of the area or possibly re-married, Mary's other son George Funnell was in Hackney in 1853, this actually confirms that there was at least one child that Mary had to Myles.
Thanks for your efforts, it's very much appreciated.

On the parish register for Myles marriage to Mary is says he is from Manningtree, I have no idea where he was born or when and where he died so I'm trying to find him the census to try and track him down that way. I am wondering if the Miles you found is the son. From a previous post in this thread there is an Elizabeth Eyland half sister to John Burton Funnell who is the brother of my GGGGrandfather so if that is correct then it suggests that the family was in Manningtree in the mid 1830's, it seems this family is quite tangled. I have to get the film for Manningtree and see what I can find there I think.
Thankyou for your efforts.

Hi Jean

Best I could find, and they are just about the only Eyland's that I could see, and it is an unusual name Wink Wink  He could be just living at Manningtree when he got married

Thanks for your help Ricky,
The spelling is unusal for a surname as well, lots of variants to it.

I found Mary in the 1841 Census with her children
Elleanor aged 4
Ester aged 1
Elizabeth aged 5

above entries were under the surname England

in 1851 Census
Mary A Eyland 50 b Thorpe
Eliazar 13 b Manningtree
Eammrary (male) 9 b Colchester
Ellar 11 b Colchester ( think this is Ester)

at St Botolph Colchester for both census

I've ordered the film for Manningtree so hopefully will find out more this week about this family.

Thanks to everyone for their help
Jean
