Death/Cemetery Look-up - John Oliver
« on: Sunday 09 September 07 18:30 UTC (UK) »

John Oliver DOB: 07 Dec. 1846; Chr. 21 Feb. 1847; Jedburgh, Roxburgh, Scot. Emigrated 1850 to Canada; Emigrated 1868 to California, USA; Found in 1920 Census for California; Employed as a Porter at  San Fransisco General Hospital. He never Married; He does not appear in the 1930 Census that I have been able to locate. It is believed he owned land in San Benito, California. I have sent for 4 DeathsCerts, but none have been the correct person. I would be most greatful if someone with access to the San Francisco,  Cemetery/Death registers could help me as this has been a brick wall!

Hi Bunty3Black !

I can't answer your question I'm afraid - but I found some snippets in the San Benito paper - thought they maybe of interest and may give you some ideas !

J. OLIVER, of Panoche, was stopping at the French Hotel this week.

John OLIVER has just put up a four wire post fence around his 160 acres of land at the store. In fact the whole valley is being fenced, and it will not be long before this entire valley will be fenced and cross-fenced.

Mr. John OLIVER came down from San Francisco, on Saturday, on his way to Panoche.

( Mr. & Mrs. M. OLIVER have left San Francisco and are now on their way to Buenos Ayres. ) ... wonder if this is a relative ?

John OLIVER, the urbane and enterprising store-keeper, of Panoche, has been in town this week. He reports the up-country as sadly in need of rain. As soon as the shearing is finished the sheep will be drove to the Sierras.

Wonder if some emails to places in town ( though it's very small ) might give you some clues and history !! I think there was some silver mining there also .... so if he was a storekeeper .... he might have had some stakes in the mines !! that maybe how he made his money !

He was 4 years old when he went to Canada ? ... who did he go to Canada with ? do you know all that information ? and just want his death ?
