I'm just wondering whether there are any names people would like me to keep an eye out for when I'm reading my evening paper. I live in Scarborough and buy the local paper each day. As well as the bmd pages they also run a piece on old pictures of scarborough some days which usually includes some names and places.
If anyone would like to send me there names from the scarborough and outlying areas I shall be happy to keep an eye out for the names when I'm reading through the paper.

Great idea, Emma!
Can I ask you to keep an eye out for the old photies of places like Levisham, Pickering and Scalby.
Also any old pictures of Pashby Bros. Pork Butchers in Newborough - it's now the ARGOS shop.

Ummm ... not sure - haven't lived in Scarborough for MANY years now, so ...
It's just down from the Catalogue Shop, but up from the Indoor Market! I have photos which I took six weeks ago if you're REALLY interested! (unlikely)

Hallo Emma,
My g-grandfather's sister - Charlotte Wright - was employed by the Laughton-family in the Royal Hotel, Scarborough.
I do not have much information about what she did but this is an extract from a family member who knew a little about her....
"However, the only task I associate with her was in the restaurant drinks dispensary, but I may be doing her a disservice. Perhaps she would be called a sommelier these days?"
Apparently, she had a good job as she had "money" and bought a house which was inherited by a family member....
Would love to find out more about her..
Thanks and hoping
Viv What exactly her job was ?

Perhaps she worked at 'Laughtons' bar. There used to be a bar in Scarborough called Laughtons, it closed down a couple of years ago, not sure when it first opened though. The Laughtons were and are very famous so no doubt she was well paid working for them!

Hi Emma,
yes, I think she was very well paid. It was said that she had help investing her money and she was one of the first people to own a car! At least in Scarborough I would exepct. Apparently a "tiny Black Singer!.
My Mum can remember her being "very posh" which was confirmed by the distant relative.
Don't know of a Laughton's bar but maybe that was opened by the family too.
Viv
Another name is Keefe

Hi Emma,
Are you still keeping an eye out for local names for people?
If so, I would be delighted if you could let me know if you come across anything related to my LISTER family. They lived at the OLD SHIP INN on SANDSIDE in Scarborough before moving to QUAY STREET where they lived at 2 GAS HOUSE YARD. They lived in Scarborough from around 1881 until my gt gt grandmother died in Gas House Yard in 1921.
Here's hoping!
