We don't dig 'em up Shocked Shocked

Just take pics of their headstones, although on the last couple of outings, sadly we didn't find any, had to make do with pics of the general area  Sad

just commenting on the difference the weather makes whilst i'm doing a "dig".
i always think thats an anti-climax , locating a grave for somebody (especially if they've travelled from a long way away) only to find it hasn't got a headstone

Hi everyone

i am new to this caper and am just looking for a bit of advice or help with my family,   am trying to confirm if a death which is registered is actually that of my GGG grandfather.  His details are John Mckeone

Date of burial:    10 Jan 1883
Place of burial:     Middlesbrough
   New Linthorpe Cemetery
How  do i confirm if this is my relative? I live in Australia so am unable to just pop down to the cemetery to check unfortunately.

thank you for your help

Hi,

Welcome to Rootschat  Smiley

You could try phoning or emailing Middlesbrough cemeteries department to see if there are any more details about his burial, names of relatives etc
Cemeteries and Crematorium Office,
Teesside Crematorium,
Acklam Road,
Middlesbrough
TS5 7HD
Tel.     01642 817725
E-mail  bereavementservices [at] middlesbrough.gov.uk

I have checked the death details on www.middlesbrough-indexes.co.uk
the reference is M-J-16-0-394  JOHN MCKEONE 1883
you could ask Middlesbrough Registrar to check for any known details for you
Middlesbrough Register Office
Tel: 01642 729004E
Email: register [at] middlesbrough.gov.uk

If it's the right one, and you get a grave number from the cemeteries office, (hopefully they can tell you if there's a gravestone), some of us will go and take a photo of the grave for you

Kind regards
Barbara

Just post the grave number here, it will be me, madpants and possibly nutty1966, we often go to Linthorpe cemetery (well, any in the local area) to take photos for people, and will do it as soon as we can!

Kind regards

Hi Louise

Just looked and found it on my map.  I can get there on Wednesday, it's just a few minutes down the road.  Did they say if there was a headstone or not?

Hi Louise,

Have been to Linthorpe Cemetery with Madpants this morning.  Unfortunately there wasn't a headstone for your gt.grandad, but I took some photos of the area so you can see where he is at rest.

Will email the photos and cemetery plan

Kind regards
Barbara
