Hi Pete,
You really are a star. Thank you so much. I hope your arm isn't too painful!
After trawlling through all these records, I've come to the conclusion that I need to find some poorlaw or 1831 census with both Edward and his mother on. A tall order, I know, but there are a few 1831 Shropshire censuses with names on. It's just getting hold of them! There's a website call salopian.info that sells some cds and the latest one has over 335.000 records on it for the Salop/Telford area. I thought that that might be worth a go.
I spoke with a cousin of mine who's also been researching the same problem only 7 years ago. He never found anything, but I'm hopeing that a lot more records are now available. There's also a story that c1845 Edward went to visit his grandparents and they were living in Yorkshire!! I don't even want to think about having to search that county!!!!
Gawd, you'd think that our ancestors would have had a forethought for this geneaology business and left us some damn records to find!!
Still glad for you help (past and future )
Cheers Rebecca
