I only know about Mary's Family.
They moved to Leeds between the birth of David in 1832 and Mary 1835 Leeds.
( Have Mary & John on Census )
Margaret's Marriage to David McBurnie is all new information.

Carol

Not finding a Margaret and a David together.  There is a Margaret of about the right age... living for most Census in Troqueer but birthplace given as Berwick.  She also shows up with a sister Christine in 1871.... no indication of marital status though.

Not an informative certificate this early on...just the names of both parties, sometimes gives the grooms place of residence at the time of marriage, the date the Banns were first posted and the date of the actual marriage.

The Dumfries marriage for MCBURNIE JOHNSTON shows MCBURNIE resident in Torqueer at the time of marriage.... so why marry in Dumfries as well?

Helen HUNTER could have been born there you said earlier.  Wonder if that has anything to do with it?

Karenlee

Hi Karen  Smiley

Are you sure that one or other or both were not banns rather than marriages?

Hi Carol  Smiley

I didn't really leave - just moving around  Cheesy

Irregular Marriage  was one that wasn't perfomed by a Church of Scotland Minister. A good and simple definition from Ancestry:

Quote
Marriage Forms and Practices
From the time of the Reformation and the founding of the Church of Scotland in 1560, marriage ceased to be a church sacrament. It became a civil matter based upon the consent of adult individuals. How the marriage took place, meaning its form, might have been regular or irregular, but it was a binding union.

A regular marriage took place before a church minister following the reading of banns. An irregular marriage came about in one of three ways: by mutual agreement, or by a public promise followed by consummation, or by cohabitation and repute. In all cases, for regular and irregular marriages, both bride and groom had to be free to marry, not within forbidden degrees of kinship and over the age of consent (12 for brides and 14 for grooms).

Any MI's for Lawrie/Laurie, Johnstone or McBurnie may help.
I think the Hunter's were from Dumfries  (But i could be wrong!!!!)
