I am looking for any information on the following;
James Johnston b abt 1784 married Helen Hunter b abt 1784 on the 15 April 1804 Troqueer, Kirkcudbright, Scotland
A possible for 1841
SCT1841/644 Place: Glasgow -Lanarkshire
Address: Kelvin Street
JOHNSTON James M 55 Iron Moulder Journeyman
JOHNSTON Hellen F 55 Lanarkshire
They had 2 children that i have found.
26 March 1806 Troqueer Margaret d/o James Johnstone and Helen Hunter
22 of August 1809 Mary d/o James Johnstone and Helen Hunter
JOHN LAWRIE married MARY JOHNSTONE, 16 Oct 1831 Troqueer, Kirkcudbright
Any information on James & Helen ( my 4x G grandparent's would be most welcome.

Not much on the marriage certificate sorry...... just that on April 15th 1804 James Johnson and Helen Hunter were fined 10 ( not sure of currency for this time in Scotland ) for an irregular marriage. No parents or witnesses etc. Bit of a blow that... but will keep trying.
Still only the 2 daughters born to James and Hellen that I can find.

David McBurnie Laurie/Lawrie b 9 Oct 1832 Troqueer s/o Mary Johnstone and John Laurie ( according to SP )
Mary is the sister of Margaret. So why would a sister name her first born after her brother-in-law ?

Yes i think they are the same but have not seen Certificates.
Mary and John are my 3x great grandparent's.
It's a mystery as John was born 11 Jul 1811 Carluke. His parent's were Robert Lawrie and Jean Scott both from Carluke married 1792 Carluke so i do not know where Dumfries comes into it.
Maybe because their parent's had an irregular marriage they got married twice.

Not an informative certificate this early on...just the names of both parties, sometimes gives the grooms place of residence at the time of marriage, the date the Banns were first posted and the date of the actual marriage.
The Dumfries marriage for MCBURNIE JOHNSTON shows MCBURNIE resident in Torqueer at the time of marriage.... so why marry in Dumfries as well?
Helen HUNTER could have been born there you said earlier. Wonder if that has anything to do with it?
