Thomas Yapp Circ 1605.
« on: Saturday 15 September 07 12:08 BST (UK) »

The above Thomas Yapp, married Anne Holland  on June 8th 1635 in CULMINGTON, Shropshire. They had a son Francis  who was baptised on 1st April 1636 in Culmington. Can any one please help me, did young Francis have any siblings? Who were Thomas Yapps  parents and any other information if possible.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Eric.

Hi Bristolloggerheads,
Many thanks for your reply, it's very possible the person we are looking for.
Yapps at that time, as were many other surnames spelt very different then to how they are spelt today.
We have come across  Yapps spelt  Yopps, Yop, Yopes,, Yopp, Yoppe to name but a few.
Very many thanks, any other info would be greatfully received.
Regards Eric.

Eric,

I can send you the transcription of his inventory but it's probably a bit too lengthy for this board. My address is my username plus the usual at blueyonder etc.etc. if you want to send me yours off board? Due to the proximity of Farlow to the pipemaking centre at Cleobury Mortimer he is probably linked with others there in some way.

Hi Peter,
Very many thanks. The item was most interesting. He gives the appearance of being reasonably wealthy. We can see that he could read, by his book collection. He would appear to have a very good wardrobe of  clothes if we consider the value in comparison to the value of the sheep in modern day terms.
Have you any idea what a coffer is, its a new word for me?
The witness at the bottom of the inventory Richard Yoppe, is probably a brother or a son, which I have no record of.
Very many thanks for a most interesting item.
Regards, Eric..

Eric,

If he is the Thomas Yappe bap. Norbury 1593 he would have had an elder brother Richard.

Hi Peter,
From what you say it's very probable Thomas Yapp 1693, having mentioned the name Richard Yapp. The year 1605 is a very approximate year of birth taken back from his marriage date. I would be most grateful  for any information you have on the family,. This last piece of information you sent me has told me a considerable amount regarding  Thomas and the Yapp family.
I look forward to your reply. Very many thanks, Eric.

Eric,
A coffer was a wooden box often used to keep blankets and sheets in.

I have more info but cannot claim any credit for it. If you search for William Yappe 1564 on Genes Reunited you will find Annette who has lots of info on this branch. You will also find 30+ documents on the National Archives site of Yoppes and Yopps going back to 1548 - I would send you a list but can't seem to get through to your e-mail.

regards
