There was a James CROOK, son of Reuben & Sarah baptised at Soberton on 28th August 1814 . Reuben was a labourer.

I think its possible that this is the right one! Have just got the Soberton parish transcriptions and there are no other James Crooks that fit. Many thanks Bearkat
