Hi Debz ... Grin

Are you still looking for James and have you received any info from Somerset board?

I cannot find him in 1881 ...what is the reference so I can have a look at POB .

I have had a look for him ... this one in 1871 looks interesting .... right DOB and  County (wrong town)

1871:
North Barracks, Deal, Kent
James COOK, private R M L I, unmarried b Crumpton Somerset

Debz ...who was his dad married to ...I cannot find James in 1861... surely he would still be with his parents ... Undecided

ooo yey Debz

I see in 1891 he was also a Private with R M L I , so I think we definitely have him in 1871 in Deal Kent!  Grin
have you seen this link :

http://www.lightinfantry.org.uk/regiments/rmli/marine_links.htm

What did James Cook(e) die of ...do you have his death cert? did he die here or overseas ? Do you have his naval record?

So we have him in 1861/71/91 , he dies in 1893...so we are missing 1881...we look further ....

also checked their list for privates on vessels ...no luck ...
http://www.lightinfantry.org.uk/regiments/rmli/other/vessels.htm

Debzzz

he is not around in 1881 ...maybe you could post on armed forces boards and they would be able to tell you what was happening then and where he could possibly be ... you never know , one of them may find his record jacket ...

Hi Debz

Been away and just caught up with your last post on the Scottish Board. Just firming up the birth/christening entries for the children of Thomas Cook and Jane from the census info posted by Deb:

1. WILLIAM COOK  Christening: 02 SEP 1849 Carhampton, Somerset, England
2. JAMES COOK Christening: 10 AUG 1851 Carhampton, Somerset, England
3. THOMAS COOK  Christening: 29 MAY 1853 Carhampton, Somerset, England
4. WALTER COOK  Christening: 07 OCT 1855 Carhampton, Somerset, England
5. ANN COOK Christening: 11 JUL 1858 Carhampton, Somerset, England
6. GILES GRIFFITHS COOK  Christening: 02 AUG 1860 Carhampton, Somerset, England
7. FANNY COOK Christening: 27 SEP 1863 Carhampton, Somerset, England

Just one more census, the 1851 one in Carhampton just before James was born:

Thomas Cook, 34, chelsea pensioner, b. Baxxxxx, Devon (from the original image, the transcription doesn't match)
Jane Cook, 30, b. Chatham Kent
William Cook, b. Carhampton, Somerset

Regards.

Monica

Hope the wedding was fun  Smiley
