Looking for any information on a Christina Johnston Swanston, b. 1883 Dunnet, parents David Swanson (seaman) and Jeannie nee Dunnet, married 1874 Dunnet.
Christina married a John Alexander Oliver (b.1881 Leith) in 1909 Leith.

Have info. on John Oliver (wife's Ancestor) up to 1901, anything appreciated thank you.

Hi Susan,

Thanks for the reply that looks like the family, Christina was 26 when married and a Post Office Clerk at Leith, one of the witness's was a Jessie Swanson.

Just trying to get what information I can , just got the marriage and birth off "scotlandspeople"may have to go back for any more.

The father being a seaman, wasn't at her birth and would seem not to be on census either, was a ships steward in 1909.

They were living at Burn of Ratter, Dunnet, Caithness

Parish Dunnet, ED 4, line 13

What was Janes fathers name on the birth? Will see if i can see him in the 1881

They were living at 15 Fort Pl, North Leith, Midlothian

You would have to check original on SP to check the relationship, on transcription Jane is wife of James but she still has seamans wife as occupation?

Hi Susan,

Haven't got that far back yet, only just started to look at the Oliver marriages.
According to IGI she married at Ratter, Dunnet in 1874 and was aged 20 (the birth of Christina just says Dunnet), the only family that fit could be John Dunnet and Janet Budge.

Looks like I will have to get back to "scotlandspeople".

That looks like the family again, but as father was not deceased at Christinas' marriage in 1909 looks like they could be lodging there.

1841 Janet and siblings with her mother Christian Budge(mckay aged50)
1851 Janet on own with 2 children wife of an agric lanourer
1861 John b1824 & Janet b1827 have 5 children inc Jane(Jeannie) aged 7.
John's occupation given as Stone Quarrier & farmer.
1871 -  7 children and he is a  Hewer & Farmer 5 acres (dau jane not there). Think she may be Dairy Maid aged 19 at the Manse Dunnet.
1881 not sure -  but think children scattered and John a widow. Jane(Jeannie) of course married to David Swanson by this year.

My interests in this are from JOHNSTON and BUDGE relations to this family.

Managed to pick family up on "FreeCen" 51-71, Hewer reads better than Hawker, will try for the 1841 census, some one has been busy with the Caithness census.

My interest doesn't really begin until David Swanson/Jane Dunnet, but finding the rest is interesting.
