Hi Julie

Please could you look up William BLAKE, address probably 6 Stamford St., Bowling.  2nd Royal Irish Rifles, died in Salonika 1915.  He was my great uncle.

Many thanks!

Hi Diana,

Sorry but No Blake either - the book lists mainly Soldiers that returned from the War although there are some in there that didn't.

Sorry I couldn't help you.

Diana,

Your William Blake should be listed on the CWGC website - I think this is him:
"Son of Sarah Hudson (formerly Blake), of 8 Eleworth Shell, Wakefield Rd., Bradford, Yorks, and the late George Blake". http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_details.aspx?casualty=2000938

Thanks very much to both of you.  I do have the CWGC info but wondered if there might be something else on the National Roll.

Marsden - in that case would you mind looking up Arthur BLAKE, my grandfather.  He was in the Royal Navy - if these are covere.

Thanks a lot!

Hi Diana,

Not having much luck tonight - Two Blakes - Private H Blake of 25 Cooke St, Laisterdyke and Sergeant LC Blake RASC (MT) of 5 Fernside Terrace, Bradford.

One of the most sought-after sets of reference books of the First World War is the National Roll of the Great War.  The National publishing Company attempted, shortly after hostilities ceased, to compile a brief biography of as many participants in the war as possible.  The vast majority of entries refer to combatants who survived the Great War and the National Roll is often the only source of information available.

I've found some of mine in there but no mention of some that I know went to war so its a bit hit and miss.
