arrgghhh help needed please
« on: Thursday 20 September 07 15:01 BST (UK) »

Hi, I'm new to all of this, only started checking out my family tree about a week ago, I'm doing quite well for only doing it for a week but I'm having trouble finding my grandmother on my mum's side in the 1901 census, I know her exact date of birth and death, what her maiden name was (she would have been 2 in 1901 so she should be there) her mum is there but not her, can someone please tell me why my grandmother isn't listed in the census? By the way she was illegitimate would that make a differance? I know it was frowned on in those days so would they pretend she didn't exist? I've put this under Lincolnshire as she was born at Spilsby
thanks for any help

Hi Linda,

Welcome to RootsChat  Smiley

Just maybe she's hiding under a mistranscription ... Tell us all you know - what's her name, where and when was she born, who's her mother - and there'll be a few dozen more eyes looking for her  Smiley

Had a look at 1901 census for females born Spilsby 1899 +/- 1 year and the only three who weren't with parents are -

Patience A "Walson" nursechild b.c1900

Edith M Bark visitor b.c1900

Cicely Williamson granddaughter b.c1899

Any of these possible? If not, will have to widen search....

Grin wow.. thank you so much CatOne.. the first one on your list is her, her name is Patience Atterby Watson and that's why I couldn't find her as what Tati says she was under a mistranscription and whoever translated the census has spelt her last name wrong.. I'm so excited.. now one more quest, can anyone find out who her father was..  Wink.. just kidding...lol
thanks again. Linda
