Scarth Hinderwell
« on: Sunday 19 December 04 20:41 GMT (UK) »

Hi all Smiley

l've got my Scarth ancestors back to 1590, and most of their christening dates, but would like some census details on them if anyone can help please. There were several families living in Hinderwell at the same time. l'll just give details on the ones you're likely to find....

Francis Scarth & Hannah (nee Woodwork) Children William & Elizabeth
1812                                                                              1836   1839

Francis Scarth & Hannah (nee Harrison) second wife

Children
John Mary Ann Thomas Francis Jane Sarah George GeorgeHenry
1845  46     48       51        53      54     57       59            61

Jane had a child called Fred Scarth father unknown born 1883 Fred later married Lily Hutchinson from Grosmont.

Any census on Scarth's or spouses and families appreciated. Thanks a lot Smiley

Hi Dawn

There are lots and lots and lots of SCARTHs.

Where were those you have listed born?

Were they all born in Hinderwell?

Assuming that you don't have any census details at all - it would probably be best to work backwards from 1901 ............ are these your latest SCARTHs ie Fred bc1883?  Where was Fred born?

The majority were born in Hinderwell, Francis born 1853 moving to Jarrow and John born 1845 to Egton. l think Fred may have been born at Egton though l'm not 100% sure. It was thought that his mother Jane died in childbirth as he was brought up by his uncle John. However in the 1891 census l found ...

50: Beck Side Farm Egton
Scarth, John - Head - M 46 - Farmer - YKS, Hinderwell
Scarth, Hannah - Wife - M 49 - none - YKS, Eastrow?
Scarth, Sarah H - Daur - 13 - Scholar - YKS, Hinderwell
Scarth, James William - Son - 11 - Scholar - YKS, hinderwell
Scarth, Jane Ann - Daur - 8 - Scholar - YKS, Egton
Scarth, George Henry - Son - 5 - none - YKS, Egton
Scarth, Fred - GrandSon - 8 - Scholar - YKS, Egton
Scarth, Jane - Sister - S 36 - none - YKS, Hinderwell
Scarth, Hannah - Mother - W 73 - Living on own means - YKS, Ellerby
Murray, Hannah - Aunt - W 84 - Living on own means - YKS, Hinderwell
Readman, Gilbert W - Serv - S 17 - Farm Servant - YKS, Aislaby
Birchett, James - Lodger - W? 77 - Retired Cabinet Maker - YKS, Brampton

Also a little confusing as Fred is John's nephew not his grandson. The information l have is from my living grandad, Fred's son.

Before you do anymore searching though please wait as l have received a personal message with someone saying they have the census's l asked about. Though in saying that any other info on anyone else would still be appreciated Smiley Hanna wife of John was nee Johnson. Hannah Murray was nee Scarth born 1806.

Thanks a lot Smiley

btw l'm so pleased l found this site, it's easy to follow and full of nice helpful people Cheesy

Dawn, you have the 1891 census entry for John and Hannah - do you have the others in 1891?  Any in 1881?  Any in 1901?
