I am doing a one name study of the Rossiter family and am looking for information about the parents and siblings of George Rossiter born circa 1861 in Halstock.

The vital records index has a baptism for George Hubert Rossitter 9th February 1862 at Melbury Osmond, Dorset parents James Rossitter and Ellen Judith, I don't think it's far from Halstock but I'm not good on Dorset.

George H Rossiter is on 1871 census with grandparents; found him on www.dorset-opc.com.
Israel (57), Eliza (60) Childs & George H Rossiter (9) grandson.
Is this your man?

Must admit that when I posted I was expecting to have confirmation of information held in my database.
As it is both your posts have introduced me to two families which don't appear to be in my database.

There are three baptisms in Halstock for Rossiters
unamed male bapt 7/2/1864 father James
Arthur also bapt 7/2/1864 parents Charles and Sarah
Henry bapt 16/2/1873 parents Edward and Mary
all FHL film 1279499

This looks like the marriage registration:
James Rossiter Jun 1861 Sherborne 5a 725 ( found on FreeBMD)
one of the brides: Ellen Childs
Copy of the certificate should give the name of the paternal grandfather.
You could look for James on 1851 census; possibly in the Sherborne area.
