Sarah Jane b 1861, Alney, Buckinghamshire (3 mths in the 1861 census) and the name Mary isnt there, but a magnet bates, ( could be a misspelling . Magnet is b 1858, ( 3 yrs on the 1861)  Gainford, Durnham

I have found a john and sarah bates in Lancashire in 1881
they are both 46 (born 1835?) He is born Marsworth she is born Preston Bisett.

They have jane, Mary Ann, James, John and Hannah with them.  Jane is listed as 19 (born 1861-2) born in Olney Bucks everyone else is born Marsworth.

Still consistent do you think?

John was b in Marsworth
Sarah was b in Preston, Bissett, Buckinghamshire.
Phobe b 1856 in Stapleton, Wisk, Yorkshire
Magnet and Sarah J you have the details for.

There does appear to be some consistency's and It could possibly be your family

In the 1871 census

Jane 10 Olney Bucksworth
John 2 Marsworth
Margaret 13 Gainsford
Phobe 15 Marsworth
Mary A 8 Marsworth

Reg District Berkhamstead
Sub Reg Tring
Cp Marsworth
Ecc P Rochester
Town Marsworth

It does indeed appear to be the same family.
