Makes sense and as I thought, except usually just the relationship to the head of household is listed... although little error like her putting surname as Swale...The LDS site entry had, if I recall, ( I found its format hard to follow) a little blurb about the family going to the U.S. before heading back to England. Could this have been to perhaps visit family? For instance we find many from Vermont in Quebec & visa versa... Is this be too early to get records of border crossings? http://www.vt-fcgs.org/vtfcgs_resources.html http://www.vt-fcgs.org/resources.html

Several people have put old copies on public sites and then they have got all over the place.

PS The story about going to the US etc is a garbled version of a story in the family about my Grandmother's parents or family going to Canada, being killed and the children returning.
It seems to partly refer to her Grandparents, i.e. Mark HAMMOND and Catherine O'SHEA. And also my Grandmother herself, her parents both died when she was 17 and she then effectively became the head of the household. But they had not been abroad. I remember being told about Masham when young, this is where Catherine O'SHEA (SWALES) lived. One of her sisters was there in the 1881, 1891 and 1901 census but I don't know if she lived there the whole time or whether all the children spent time with their Grandmother, it seems possibly because she was lodge keeper at a large house outside Masham so it would be a healthier place than 19th Century Bolton.
