Hello Jan, I was looking for an Ancestor of mine from Bletsoe/Thurleigh who had a possible entry in the Bedford Gaol register in 1844. He was tried & convicted, then placed in Millbank prison before he was shipped off to Van Diemen's Land in 1844. There was no clues in the Bedford gaol register, or the newspaer report of the trial, or in the Millbank prison registers that listed him, or on the convict ship William Jardine's manifest - that he was mine.
So next step was to get the convict records from the Tasmanian Archives where he had an entry. 6 weeks later & still $AU 22 to pay, the paperwork arrived. Although it lists his age - not date of birth, & native town - which was just Near Bedford; under 'remarks' it lists his 4 brothers' names - which match my tree - so I am now convinced I have the right person.
So request your details & see what you get.
All the best John
