I would be grateful if someone could look up the 1841 census data for Alexander Allan (birth details unknown) and his wife Elizabeth Patrick, who was born in 1813 at Kilsyth.
They had at least 2 children:
Robert born 1835 @ Cumbernauld; and
Mary born about 1840ish at Chryston, Lanarkshire.
I'm not sure whether they were living in Dunbartonshire or Lanarkshire at the time of the census.

Alexn Allan age 35 born Lanarkshire, Scotland, Occupation Sp Dealer,
Elizabeth Allan, 25 born Lanarkshire
James Allan, 15, born Lanarkshire, Occupation Miner
Elizabeth Allan, 3, born Lanarkshire
Mary Allan, 1, born Lanarkshire
Helen Wyper, 15, born Lanarkshire, Occupation F.S.
There is a Robert Allan on the same page aged 9, just says born in Scotland and he is in the household of Robert Allan age 35 L. Miner and Agness age 30.

Thank you for this information.
It does look to be the same family but with Alexander's wife giving her birthplace as Lanarkshire in the census I cannot be sure.
I wonder whether the later census records might hold more info?

This is even more curious!
Elizabeth's birthplace is now given as Allan, Sulby! There is a Sulby in the Isle of Man but this seems very strange and certainly does not agree with the 1841 info. I'm not sure what is going on but something does not seem quite right here.
I suspect that the birthplace of the children is actually Chryston not Christian.
