Hi everyone, i am researching my gr grandfather Rowland cole & have gone in circles getting no-where. He was b. 1855 Dudley ? worcestershire england (ref. death cert & 1871 census derbyshire england), no b. igi listing. A possible b. dec 1854 Stourbridge staffordshire west midlands, worcestershire. (ref. England FreeBDM 1837-1983) His parents were Elijah & Mira Cole. He was supposed to be a twin? The whole family do not appear in the 1881 census. Rowland migrated to NZ. i am assuming for the moment that the whole fam. migrated havent found anything about ships to Nz between 1872-1880. suggestions of closest port would be appreciated! Does anyone have access to the 1871 census to confirm the household details for Elija & Mira Cole or is this a big ask? cheers from Oz Vic

Hi Vic, the Vicar of Cradley 1857 the Rev J.H. Thompson did his own Census of his Cradley flock, I have a copy of his Notebook. Elijah was living in Two Lanes End Cradley in 1857, the entry says, Elijah Cole Puddler attends Chapel, (Non Conformist) Mirah also attends Chapel she is the daughter of John Priest. Children Rowland 3 in October, Mary Jane 3 October and an Infant aged 0.
Mirah's parents, living in Netherend Cradley, John Priest Nailer Non Conformist, the Vicar says he likes a drink! Wife Elizabeth March, children Ellen 12 April attends Methodist Sunday School, Francis 10 April Methodist Sunday School, Charles 6 May, attends Methodist Sunday School and Unitarian School.
HTH from linell.
