Hi census only show marrage names' how do you look for maiden names to carry on with a search on births Thanks.Mark

(a)  you get a birth cert for one of the children  (recommended)

or


(b) You go to freebmd and search the man's name with just the first name of the wife, put in the area and the possible years if you know them.
If you get a recognisable result, click on the page number for a list of possible spouses.

This only works if it's a recognisable name and you already have a rough idea. Because there can be far too many to narrow down.

If you are a member of Ancestry, you can also find the names of women recorded on the same page of the registry, and as long as you don't have a lot with the same Christian name, you can find them by matching Christian names.

And if you are searching in Scotland, particularly in 1841, you will find that many married women are listed in the census under their maiden names.

Hi,
The  England and Wales GRO Marriage indexes show the womens surnames at the time of their marriages , it doesn't mean it is their  maiden names - you need to order the certificates to be sure of the maiden names
