Geoff,
It's a small world - my mother was in the wages office of the joiners shop on the works up to 1946 when she left to have me. Marjorie Graham if Mam is still around to ask. And Pim Smith was my uncle in the drawing office and he played scrum half for the Zebras. It's getting like Friends reunited! ;>}

My Mam also left there in 1946 to marry (in Lincoln) - the only names I have are on telegrams sent from Workington to her wedding reception-

Mrs Muir
Tem (sic) and Mary
WCO Staff (Workington Coke Ovens)
C H Kay (her boss)
Jean

The only other name I remember hearing was another boss - Mr McCOWAN (or McKEOWN).

Mother was furiously trying to remember the name of the coke oven boss. I'll see her tomorrow and she'll be delighted. She is failing fast but I hope I'm as bright at her age.
On second thoughts I'm probably not that bright now.  ;>}
