My ancestor Stephen SIMMONS was born 1829 Croydon. He was married to Ellen BRITTLE 12 February 1854 at the New Parish Church of St. James The Great, Bethnal Green, Middx. Stephen's parents were Charles Simmon(d)s c. 1786/91 and Elizabeth born c. 1791/96, (no surname for her), but she was poss. born Feltham, Middx. Would love to hear from SIMMON(D)S and BRITTLE Family.

There are a number of potential marriages for William in that area:
Assuming that he was single in 1841 (?)
1842 March Newington 4/291 with a Sarah Gerrish on the same page
1843 March Lambeth 4/168 with a Sarah Elanor Bright on the same page
1846 June Lambeth 4/252 with a Sarah Mortimer on the same page.

From the list above you say that the first child was 1846.
It may be safer to get one of the birth certificates to find the mother's name - just because there is a Sarah on the page does not mean that William married her - there are 3 other men too!

Hi LAS1015.
Do you know where Stephen's father, Charles, was born?
My gggf James Simmons was born in Merstham in 1809 but his father William was from outside the parish. Merstham is a few miles south of Croydon. I wonder if there is a connection?
