i am favouring the 1897 birth, it was not uncommon for detah ages to be incorrect. but yes you would need to find the marriage ref and utilmatley the marriage cert. to confirm her fathers name, i don't have access to the census other than 1881, if someone could find her on 1901 then you could see if the fathers match.
unfortunatley 1920-1984 you have to search the BMD qtr by qtr
