i fould these deaths:~

Dorothy Bell d.o.b 31.01.1899 d. oct 1985 Louth
do. 02.07.1899 d. Sept 1989 Doncaster
Dorothy Evelyn 09.10.1899 April 1984 Cleveland
Dorothy Grace 28.03.1899  Oct 1992Croydon

do. 01.07.1899 Sept 1985 Lambeth
Dorothy maud 08.02.1899 Oct 1991 Exeter

the trouble with searching for a marriage after 1920 means going through each qtr for each year on the full BMD until you find it

ok,

in Q2 1927 there was a Dorothy Charlton who m. a Thomas Bell in Morpeth (which is Co. Durham Northumberland) 10b 825

in Q1 1925 a Dorothy M Shillcock m. a Thomas M Bell in Birmingham 6d 385

Q4 1918 Sunderland Dorothy Fowler m. Thomas Bell 10a 1040

do you know if they had children? after 1911 the birth register included mothers maiden name

i have only searched on freebmd for these marriages as i cannot search the fulbmd unless i know her maiden name.

if these marriages are not your then at least you can rule them out.

Hi both - yes Toni I was wondering if there were any known children.  The strange thing is according to Free BMD there were no Dorothy Lesleys born in 1899,  so perhaps she wasn't born in England - though I must say Lesley seems a very modern name for 1899

Undecided

the age at detah was what the informant believed the deceased to be so it may be out. also FreeBMD is not complete

she could simply be listed under Dorothy L, also you need to check a few years either side of her birth.

having a quick look myself on the FullBMD you are right there were no Dorothy Lesley births in 1899.

there is a Dorothy Lesley birth in Q1 1897 St Olave 1d 297
Lesley here is the surname.

on the FullBMD there is a Dorothy Lesley Fowden b. Q2 1889 Lewisham 1d 1174
this is the only case of a Dorothy Lesley used as a first name/s in the fullbmd from 1866-1920

the 1897 one looks promising.

just looking on the fullBMD for a Dorothy Lesley (Lesley as the surname) b. 1897 - 1901 only brings up the one in St Olave also note she was registerd in Q1 which would cover February.

looking for a Dorothy L b. 1897 - 1901 gives us 14 options, with only one being born in 1899.

Dorothy L C Russell-Williams Q4 1899 Guildford

note she was registered in Q4 by law births should be registered within 42 days wuth an extension of upto 6 months accompanined by a a financial penalty.

finally if they don't prove to be yours then she could have been registered under male or female but again we cannot serahc these unless we know her maiden name.

i am favouring the 1897 birth, it was not uncommon for detah ages to be incorrect. but yes you would need to find the marriage ref and utilmatley the marriage cert. to confirm her fathers name,
i don't have access to the census other than 1881, if someone could find her on 1901 then you could see if the fathers match.

unfortunatley 1920-1984 you have to search the BMD qtr by qtr

Hi

Nomie - another few  questions - when and where was your mothers marriage?   and what was her father Thomas William Bells occupation on the certificate, who were the witnesses?  - we are trying on this one honest  any further info you can give us such as wether your mother had siblings would possibly help.

Huh
