Aylesbury - READER & HICKMAN in Parish records
« on: Saturday 29 September 07 17:10 BST (UK) »

Hi

Can anyone offer me some detail on the READER family, especially those in Temple Street from the early 19th century on, please?

I have loads of data but there seem to be births who no one in the family knew of, perhaps followed by child deaths, and births where the FREEBMD shows a mothers name as different from what we expected! There can be a simple explanattion but before we accept the obvious we'd like to give the benefit of any doubt a run;-) On the other hand perhaps there were more than one branch of the family there?

Any look ups would be appreciated Fathers names are John, Henry and George.

Thanks in anticipation.

Colin

Thanks Toni

Tho I had some of that data there are several new bits of info i there but most important you save sorted out this family in to their own locations in more detail than I had been able to. The Wing connection and the Parsons Fell place are valuable in the accuracy they give. Also Theos address and date of death.

Grateful appreciation, thanks ;-)

the IGI enrty was submitted and not extracted so be wary of it,for example IGI has the marriage of Theo to a Sarah yet in 1881 she is called Susan. i found the relevant births marriages etc on the BMD but this of course does not tell us if the parents are correct, only the certs will tell us that (or baptisim records)

i think you need to just check the 1851 census for the family i found on IGI just confirm if they had any children in between.

what i do when concentrating on one registrations district and one name is to find all the births all the detahs and all the marriages for say 20 years at a time and match these up, then try to get the census details for each person. it may sound long winded but you can be sure of whom belonged to whom and also depending on the popularity of the surname it may not be all that difficult and also remember when searching the census you are most liekly to be seraching families and so can cross off a block of names each time.

hope this makes sense.

I'm sitting with a copy of Aylesbury Marriages 1691-1754 on my knee,
I can't help you with Reader, there isn't anyone of that name in here, but if you do have the Hickman connection, here are four straight from the records which might come in handy later...

24 Mar 1694/5 Robert Hickman married Mary Thorne

7 Apr 1714 Francis Hickman of Stow married John North labourer of Buckingham

24 Dec 1730 Robert Hickman carpenter of Aylesbury married Elizabeth Parrott of Aylesbury

22 Jul 1741 Ann Hickman spinster of Lynslade married Joseph Brampton bachelor of Leighton Buzzard

Guys,

Your help has been terriffic. I will log it all in and thanks.

I am now feeding the data back to the Readers of today and have pre-empted their questions by starting to think how I can find the Derbyshire origins in more detail.

Again thanks. You have been a great help.
