Minnie Collins Bennett
« on: Sunday 30 September 07 09:23 BST (UK) »

Hoping a new set of eyes can help with this one.

Minnie Collins Bennett was born in 1880 in March, Cambs. She was the illegitimate daughter of Sarah Emma Bennett. In 1881 she was living with her grandmother Jane Collins in March. In 1891 she was with her mother who was still unmarried still living in March. I cannot find either of them in the 1901 census. I have found a possible marriage for Sarah in Sep 1891 to either George Smith or Thomas Nash but I cannot find her under either of these names either.

Any ideas?

Hello Smiley
There is the death of a Sarah Emma Smith aged 41 in North Witchford in the December quarter of 1900 [free bmd] vol 3b page 318. This would fit with a marriage to George Smith in September 1891 and in terms of her age at death of 41 with her birth in the December quarter of 1858 [freebmd] vol 3b page 545

Thanks MarMnkly

I spent all day yesterday looking through the Smiths in 1901 census now I know why I couldn't find her.

Just need to find her daughter now.

hi supermumsmith Smiley
bit of a long shot, but could Minnie have married under the surname of Smith given her mother was Smith from 1891 until her death in 1900? There is a marriage in North Witchford of a Minnie Smith in 1892, but that would have meant she was only 12! years old?

Is Fred Bennett related to Minnie [sibling] as I noticed he was aged 1 in 1881 census living in same household as a Sarah E Bennett, Cornelius Bennett and father Frederick?

Hi MarMnkly

Yes Fred Bennett was her brother but I don't know if they had the same father.

I have searched under the name Smith, Bennett and Collins but nothing seems to fit.

I have found a Minnie Asplin married to George Asplin who would be the right age living in March in 1901 but I have not been able to track down a marriage yet.

Probably not her but maybe worth a quick look if you are able to access the 1901 census transcriptions...there is a Sissie Bennett aged 19 born "March, London" living in Bedale Yorkshire. It jumped out because of the birthplace of 'March'.
