DEPARTMENTS, MARINES, AND INDIAN ARMY, AND INDIAN LOCAL FORCES. This very important list, being the penultimate edition of the Hart's publications, contains the War Services of Officers, Active, Retired, Reserve etc and will be a must have reference source for any military researcher. With reference to despatches in the London Gazette, a summary of service, Medals awarded.... An example: ABADIE, Maj. E. H. E. (9 Lrs.).—Served in the Soutn African War 1899-1902.—Was present at the advance on Kimberley, including the action at Belmont, Enslin, and Magersfontein. Relief of Kimberley Took part in the operations in the Orange Free State, Feb. to May 00, including operations at Paardeberg (17 to 26 Feb.) ; actions at Poplar Grove, Dreifontein, Karee Siding, Houtnek (Thoba Mtn.) Vet River (5 and 6 May), and Zand River. Was present during the operations in the Transvaal in May and June 00, including actions near Johannes- burg, Pretoria, and Diamond Hill (11 and 12 June) Again in the Transvaal, east of Pretoria, July to 29 Nov. 00, including actions Reit Vlei and Belfast. In the Transvaal, west of Pretoria, July to 29 Nov., 00. Operations in Cape Colony and the Transvaal, 30 Nov. 00 to 31 May 02. Mentioned in despatches, Lond. Gaz., 10 Sept. 01. Queen's medal with 8 clasps, and King's medal with 2 clasps. D.S.O.
