Hi Moryan
Welcome to Rootschat. I''m so glad that you decided to join
I see your problem. The only Agnes that seems to fit on the 1901 census has parents William and Nellie - 17 Berkely Street, paisley (Ref - 573/1 ED 25 page 23). Here, William is a Book Maker. What occupation does it give on her marriage certificate? It might help.
This Agnes is shown as being born Paisley. On the Scotlands People website www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk there are 3 registrations in Paisley - 1890, 1896 and 1897. There's also one in Kilbarchan in 1892.
The father's occupation might be the best clue.
Regards

I'll have a detailed look at the census image and see what it looks like
Agnes could have been nervous and given the wrong name. Also, if they were dead, it might be worth looking for deaths for them. I'll have a quick look.
Another thought, do you know when Agnes died? Her death cert would also give parents' names.

Hi Moryan and Gadget
Helen Wylie Kerr, married to William Kerr died in 1903 of breast cancer:
1903 WYLIE HELEN KERR F 46 PAISLEY /RENFREW 573/01 1270
William Kerr shows reported death. He shows as a shoemaker. The address looks like Barclay Street in Paisley.
Regards.

Just seen the 1901 census entry with mother as Nellie W Kerr. The address matches the death cert details above.

Thanks for that Monica - my line went down in the middle of looking it up.

PS - after having to reinstall Java because of a Firefox update. I've just got back in to Scotlands People and it is definitely Book maker - so it was a mis-transcription on the original record

Gadget, I use firefox exclusively - the updates however send my settings into a spin too (java and firefox don't like each other at all, so much so that I have stopped using java!).
This looks like Helen's birth entry:
HELEN WYLIE Birth: 07 AUG 1857 Abbey (Paisley), Renfrew, Scotland Parents: THOMAS WYLIE and CATHERINE MCALPINE

Well, this mornings was a right mess up spin It hung the computer. Then my line went down and then it hung some more - just SP though. it worked fine with all the other sites I use.
Where were we - there are quite a few deaths for William Kerr in Paisley 1903 -1913. I think the most likely one is the 1907 one, aged 49.

Yep, that's the right one. William died an alcoholic in the Paisley Poorhouse a few year later:
1907 KERR WILLIAM M 49 PAISLEY /RENFREW 573/01 0543
Moryan, William's death cert. details are a perfect example of how the information on certificates can sometimes be misleading. His parents are down as James Kerr and (as the name of Helen's mother) Catherine McAlpine. The informant is the Poorhouse Governor. I think you will need to look at William and Helen's marriage cert to re-confirm their parents' names.

Did you check out the Kilbarchan one, moryan? It was the only 1902 with that name in Renfrewshire - even using wildcards! The 1890 one is a wee bit older.
