On the 1841 census of Westbury (HO107/1188/3 Folio 17a Page 18) there is a family of John & Eliza JONES which includes (according to the Ancestry.co.uk transcription) a 14-year-old daughter named Johniel JONES Nowhere else can I find mention of her. BUT there is a male called Ishmael JONES who appears on all other censuses, except the 1841, born at Westbury Leigh at about the same time. Looking at the original image, does anyone else think that Johniel could be Ishmael with the age entered under the wrong sex? I need a second opinion. Many thanks Pat
That was quick - Many thanks Yes the capital "I" and "J" are very similar. I believe the family were probably Baptist and hence the lack of baptismal records and possibly the biblical forename but the sex change confused me as well. Thanks Pat
