We enjoyed this episode very much tonight and half way through , had an inkling of the country of origin .
Said as much to OH who was suitably impressed. But I reckon a number of Gene Hunters would have come to the same conclusion!!!

Be interesting to see him on a programme with Sanjeev Bhaskar or Meera Syal, I can imagine a bit of leg pulling from them!

Mum, bless her!

I really enjoyed this episode - Alistair McGowan was really on a quest, and he said he felt like a detective!
I had a suspicion about the final "outcome" - having had the same result myself (ie, your heritage coming from an unexpected source!)
I could sympathise with his feelings of loss for his Scottish roots - I felt much the same haviong been very proud of my Scottish surname (MacGregor) only to later find my Dad had assumed the name!

My kind of place

I found this episode extremely interesting.
I was not at all surprised that he turned out to be of Irish rather then Scottish descent as I have always understood that the Mac's are Scottish and the Mc's Irish.
But I suppose there will always some exceptions to the rules.

I've no connections with Ireland, East India Company or India but I found the programme absolutely fascinating. Such a shame about the ruined church and overgrown cemetery.
Wonder where the name Suetonius came from; was he a famous Roman?

Mum - thanks to RC Restorers

Great programme, thought the part where he met all his relatives was surreal, like something from a comedy sketch.
One thing you have to say for the East India Company and the British Army, they certainly kept great records, pity more of them aren't online.

I think the producers have done a good job in making all the programmes very different. So far I've enjoyed all of them - and this one showed how much behind the scenes research goes on before we see the finished production.
Look forward to next week's now!
