COMPLETED THANKS - Is that address really what it looks like?
« on: Thursday 04 October 07 18:00 BST (UK) »

Hi all, just found this census image for some rellies & had to laugh at the address.  Does everyone agree that it really is what it looks like, or have you any other ideas.

Maybe someone knows the area & is familiar with this address, in which case can you show me on a map?

Finally, I tried googling Sluts End, Ampthill & just got a load of sites about people meeting others & walking their dogs - very strange!  Regards, TonyR.

I've just checked this on the 1841 Find my Past address
search - according to them it certainly existed!  Grin

According to the BLARS online catalogue at
http://blars.adlibsoft.com/ it seems to have
been known variously as Shutts/Shitts/Slutts/Sluts End,
and is now Woburn Street

It's just along the road from Shitlington,
now known as Shillington. No idea why they
changed the name in the 1800s

Thanks to everyone for their input, well it made me smile.

I couldn't get onto findmypast as suggested by Pels but David's post that it became Woburn Street is interesting because that's where the family are living in 1851.

So potentially they hadn't moved house, it was the street that was renamed.  Thanks again, TonyR.

Hi

Shillington [as was Shitlington] is a lovely place - even if the church is on a hill and the gravestones are made of sandy stuff so you cant read the inscriptions!

Sluts Lane in Ampthill may be called - ''Persons of Easy Virtue Lane'' ....I dont know?  Grin  No, I think David is right - it became Woburn Road

What about Littleworth [a hamlet near Cotton End]?  That goes back to the doomsday when it got its name I have heard.  Refering to the property - not the inhabitants?  Or, perhaps to both?!
