All Saints - Cockermouth - Record Office Look Up please
« on: Friday 05 October 07 15:57 BST (UK) »

Hello

Is anyone visiting the Records Office in Maryport or Carlisle soon?

If you are and it is not too much trouble, could you possibly have a look for this expected family group for me (Andrew R helped me a while ago with some post 1841 records, now trying to get back a stage):

According to IGI,

a Wilford (possibly Wilfred) Cape married Elizabeth Swinburn at All Saints on 21/12/1818

any sign of this, if yes, any additional info?

I am hopeful that they are of my line and if so, probably had the following children:

John/Jonathan c1820
Joseph c1824
James c1827

and that they would have perhaps been baptised at All Saints.

If yes, do they appear with these parents?

I believe Wilford or Wilfred may have died pre 1841.

Finally, is there a marriage for John/Jonathan Cape to a Dinah just pre 1837 (again at All Saints)?

Realise this is a lot to ask, but have tried to crack this from afar without success and would really appreciate if someone could have a look at the church records for me.

I have Census Records etc  from 1841.

Yours in hope and with thanks.

The IGI has over 100 baptisms a year at All Saints for that period.  I'd be surprised if your lot had all been missed out if they were baptised there.

So...are you saying not to bother asking then Huh

Like yourself, I am not new to research (or indeed helping others on Rootschat) and realise that the lack of entries on IGI when there are many such for other Cape folks at All Saints, is strange, but having re-visited this line numerous times, I feel strongly that All Saints holds the missing pieces. Perhaps I am wrong, and I would be the first to accept if this is so, but if I didn't ask, then should some kind soul have been willing to have a look for me, it would have been an opportunity missed.

Research over many lines and many years has often taught me that instinct and hunches should not just be swept aside.

If no-one is able to look for me then no loss or harm done. If they are, then potential gain.

Undecided really as to the seeming 'tone' within your comment.

Sorry if you perceived a "tone".  Embarrassed

I agree, leaving no stone unturned is the best hope.  I have found people in transcriptions who don't appear in the registers in Whitehaven Records Office.  I suppose there are records - somewhere - with the missing baptisms.

Of my ancestors, despite four of them being born in Cockermouth 1844-50, only one seems to have been baptised at All Saints and I never found the alleged marriage of their parents.
