1841 look up please

can anyone do a 1841 look up please of Josiah Read whose parents wee reportedly Willaim Read and Sarah Brumley. he was born in 1825 and i have him married in 1881 but i cant find his parents marraige or anything about them. i think the mother may be wrong.
Josiah was born in Cranfield, bedford but died in Utah usa. he only went there late in life. in 1881 he was still in kent. he reprtedly married ellen brandon in 1848 so this census is crucial to finding his parents hopefully.

Can't see anything for Josiah in the 1841 census but there's a lot of submitted stuff about him on the IGI, some of which has the mother as Sarah Brimley some as Sarah Brumley, and a marriage for the parents on either 11 or 18 December 1815 at North Crawley, Buckingham. There is also an extracted record of a William Read/Sarah Brimley marriage at North Crawley on 11 Dec 1815.

Hi Kas.....

The Bedfordshire entries for this couple are all member submitted so should be viewed with caution. Sarah's name changes from Brumley to Brimley as well.
There is also a member sub for this couple in North Crawley Bucks.

They are living there in 1851 which I will print for you but I haven't got an 1841 census so I will print the family of 1851 as it may help the searchers for you..

The other way to come at it is to use marriage certs and parish registers

The marriage is on FreeBMD
( http:/freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl ) as being in the Dec quarter 1849 in Newport Pagnell registration district. If you order the certificate you'll get confirmation that his father was William.

Similarly you can order and view the microfilm of Cranfield parish register at your nearest LDS Family History Centre to confirm Josiah's baptism

This looks like the family in 1841, but no sign of William

** Nah! Don't think so. All that member submitted dross has a Jesse as well born 1827. As he wasn't with parents in 1841 the only way to confirm Josiah is to check the parish register film

thanks for all that info guys. this branch of the family really does have some wierd and interesting names. makes them great to find though Grin

maybe william was either at work or down the pub in 1841. you may laugh but ive followed the line of Josiahs daughter Sarah Ann she married Charles Smale and in 1881 he was an engine driver but he was on his own. then i loioked down the list of people where he was. all married men all on their own age between 50 and 24. looked to the bottom of the page at the address

so thats whee they all were having a pint.

can i ask for one more favour.

if charles smale was down the pub in 1881 where was his wife. just spent the last hour trying to find her. cant find her anywhere.

dont know if they had any children but Sarah Ann Read marrried Charles Thomas John Smale in Stepney in 1874.

igi has her death as 1896 so in theory she must be somewhere. the family are mostly london based although some of her more distant family have visited or lived in USA at one point.

i would have thought if he was in the pub in mile end road she wasnt far away. can anyone help here?

sarah was born in 1856 supposedly millwall? her parents are Josiah Read and ellen brandon.
her parents both died in early 1900's in Utah. so this is yet another USA family. yet in 1881 they are in kent. but obviously sarah has moved out by then.

probably i have no idea where he came from but she was born in millwall. and her middle name was ann. so maybe this is them.
at least inknow she hasnt disappeared off to USA
