Hi Steve

Your family appear in the Croft History of North Uist, Vol 2 by Bill Lawson.

First showing at Split Croft 1/2 Malacleit, then they exchanged crofts with Christian's (known as Kirsty) parents, Angus MacKinnon (1781-1873, son of John MacKinnon) and Kirsty nee Morrison (1784-1875, daughter of John Morrison) to croft 6 Ceathramh Meadhanach (english name = Middlequarter).

I have to go out ow for a little while, but will post the rest of the info for you later today.

Regards

Ellen.

Back again.

Ok, the info showing for the children of John Morrison and Kirsty MacKinnon is pretty much what you already have.  I'll just add the extras here.

1. Margaret - known as Peggy. b. 1831. married Alexander Morrison from Loch Baghasdail.

2. Christian - known as Kirsty, b. 1833. d. 1906. never married.

3. Archibald - known as Archie - b. 1835. d. 1906.married Catherine MacLeod from croft 3 Ceathramh Meadhanach.

4. Flora - b. 1836. d. 1855.

5. Marion - b. 1840. d. 1909. never married.

6. Neil - b. 1842. d. 1855.

7. Angus - b. 1846.

8. Rory - shown as Roderick - b. 1848. never married.

Archie, no 3 above took over the croft from his father. He and Catherine had a son, Duncan, who married Marion MacIsaac. They leter settled in clydebank.

Roderick, no 8 above then took over the croft, which later passed on to a James MacKinnon, no obvius relative.

Going back now to Kirsty (Christian) MacKinnon's folks.

Angus MacKinnon and Kirsty Morrison as showing as having 7 children, of which your Kirsty/Christian was the eldest.

1. Kirsty - 1811-1905 married John Morrison from Loch Portain
2. John - 1815-1875 married Catherine Morrison from Loch Portain and they settled in Loch Portain.
3. Donald - 1817-1886. never married.
4. Betty - 1819 - ? married John MacCuish from 4 Dunsgealair and they settled at croft 1/1 Malacleit
5. Marion - 1820-1887, married Roderick Morrison from Cnoc a' Lin
6. Rachel - 1824-1871. never married.
7. William - 1827-1886, married Catherine Monk from 7 Malacleit and they settled at 7 Malacleit

The croft (1/2 Malacleit) passed from Angus MacKinnon to son Donald, no 3 above, then passed to his nephew Angus MacKinnon b. 1880, from 7 Malacleit (son of William no 7 above), who married Kirsty MacLeod.

Hope some of this is of use to you. If you have any questions about any specific individuals above, let me know and I'll look to see if there is any further info on their movements.

All the best.

Ellen.

Hi Ellen,

I'm sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you, unfortunately normal life took over.
Thank you so much for that wealth of information. I now have the book on order, at least I hope thats the volume I ordered.
I must admit I was pondering how to find any other siblings without doing expensive random searches on scotlandspeople web site. Is there a knack for doing this? I hate to sound ignorant but is there a social reason why so many of them never married?
Do you know of anywhere where I might be able to get copies of photo's of the crofts or even better the people?
Thank you again for all your help.
Take care
Steve
