1861census look up - Clay
« on: Friday 22 June 07 11:54 BST (UK) »

Hi.

On the 1861 census Emma Clay born Wellington living at Watling St. Wellington she is a widow age 34 or 39 I am trying to make out her occupation,  I think it says something Labouress can anyone else make it out. Also I wonder if anyone else thinks that her fathers name looks like Aaron Lewis age 76 born Wombridge.

If it does read Aaron Lewis would it be possible for someone to have a look for him in the 1841/1851 census.

Many thanks
Lyn.

It's certainly something 'door labourer' I still think the first word is Out.

I find that I can't put the small relevant bit of image up here. Could I put it on the practice posts and link it?

Here it is, I hope:

Thanks every one,  I can see now that it is a J not a L.  Still no luck though finding an Aaron Jervis/Jarvis on the I.G.I  I'll keep searching.

Many thanks.

HI Lynn
I have just joined this site, I mainly use ancestry.  Well I am researching this family as my grandad William Jenks Jarvis born 1898 Watling st Wellington salop.  His mother Annie Jarvis and her brother James Jarvis were both born Wellington Salop.  They came to warrington Cheshire 1900's.   Annie got pregnant and went back home to have my grandad, which on his birth certificate its Watling st.  So I knw that these Jarvis's was their family.  Jenks comes from grandad's father Samuel jenks whom she never married.  yes I found Aaron under Lewis and it is him.  Couldn't find him I think it was 1851.  When you put all the names and dates of births in for the rest of the children I am really sure that he changed his name to Prichards, have a look and you will see what I mean.  Moses and all the children are still with him.   Enoch who I think his my connection, I think Mary was the mother of my Annie and brother James.  I havn't had this confirmed yet.  And another thing that caught my eye was back in Warrington on one of the later census years where my Annie and James lived which was Nicholson St, I found a Tranter family their with a aunt called Mary Tranter, I ahve a feeling this name is connected to the Jarvis family.  But yet I havn't found out how.(I will keep searching though).  All these families came from Wellington to Warrington.  Emma Clay remmarried in 1865 to George Holmes.  Hope this helps in any way and please tell me what you think about Aaron pritchard in the 1851 census.
Thanks Wendy nee Jarvis
