Hi Tricia
Welcome to Rootschat
Virtually all of Beds marriages and baptisms pre 1812 have been extracted onto the IGI, which you can check out yourself at www.familysearch.org.
You'll find three entries in 1809, two of which are member submissions which are usually unreliable, and the third is the extracted entry which you can rely on (in this case the members have actually got it right)
The parish register transcription adds no further detail to what's on the IGI
For what I would have thought was a unique name I'm surprised that there were two earlier baptisms in the nearby parishes of Meppershall in 1807 and Campton in 1774
You'll also find his parents' marriage in Southill in 1802 - the transcript describes his mother, Sarah Porter as being from Shefford, which was actually in the parish of Campton.

What was his wife's name? I'll see if I can come at him from a different direction

In 1851 living in Shefford was Warner Green unmarried 41 a butcher born Stanford (a hamlet of Southill). So if your Warner died 1848 age 42 then he must have been the Meppershall one

Odd that the marriage can't be found; nor can I find Mary's baptism.
The only marriage I can find was Warner Green/Mary Spencer in 1834 at Holborn St Andrew, and I can't find these in any census.
Did they have children?

It's a mystery! The Whitteridges were non-conformists, but that shouldn't affect the marriage. Virtually all of the Beds parishes around Haynes have been extracted onto the IGI post 1812 other than Campton (which includes Shefford) which adjoins Haynes and Meppershall. I wonder if they married there.
The Holborn marriage was taken from Pallots Index and I doubt if there's a transcription error - Whitteridge to Spencer is a bit of a jump
Whilst there doesn't seem to be any doubt regarding Mary Whitteridge it would still be nice to find the marriage!

Hi Is it possible Mary Whitteridge was married to a Spencer before she married Warner? I know in that case both names should have been on Samuel's birth certificate but in practice this may not have been the case and she may have just given her maiden-name.

Hi Tricia Have you seen this extracted record on the IGI?
Mary Elizabeth Whitteridge Adult Christening age 26 at Haynes on 11 May 1834 parents William and Martha
This rather makes my previous marriage theory redundant!
