Which cemetery? Completed
« on: Monday 08 October 07 16:03 BST (UK) »

I've lost the name of a cemetery in Beds. I've sifted through 'thousands' of deleted emails in the hunt!!!

The 2 photos below are my only clue. Does anyone recognise whereabouts these may have been taken please, i was hoping the background may give an idea ? Poli.

Harry Copperwheat died in North Bucks registration district in Q3 1953 aged 83 if that's any help. Mary E died in Ampthill RD

I'm afraid one church wall looks very much like another church wall to me!

Do you have any names on the older gravestones? Might be able to check on the NBI

Thanks for the compliment Half Pint but i can't claim it!!  Grin

These photos were among a half dozen kindly taken for me some time ago. It's the photographer's email i cannot find any more, naming the cemetery.

bedfordshire boy---Hi,  the older of the 2 stones has a Robert Copperwheat on it but you need a darned good magnifying glass to see it [or at least i do] he died in 1903. there probably are other names on it too and this is the reason i want to know the cemetery name as i am hoping to pay a visit to the Beds. record office and hopefully that cemetery in the near future. Lovely photographs.
I'd say Ampthill but thats really because on the Ampthill website someone is actually looking for Copperwheats.
The site is www.ampthilltoday.org.  It's not really a family history site but if you click on to Message Forums (left hand side) and scroll down there is a section on history of times gone by............forget exactly what its called now. Might be worth a look though

http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/BDF/Ampthill/index.html has photos of many of the Beds churches, but the church in the background doesn't look much like the stonework on Ampthill church. I had wondered about Marston Moretaine church as that's where many Copperwheats were from but the photo of that church doesn't seem too promising either.

In 1901 there was a Robert Copperwheat age 63 born Marston living in Wootton. The photo of Wootton church looks similar - does it ring any bells?

Eise

If you go to the UK National Archives - and click ''search the archives''...

Then enter COPPERWHEAT in the  space and search... 139 hits come up and I think they are mostly mid-Bedfordshire.

From a quick look I see there was a John Henry C who was a photographer in /around Ampthill [early 20th C] but all the WW1 Medical Cards will come up too - so worth a look.  I think, apart from Marston M ...Lower Shelton figures in their 20th C history?

The background in the first photo looks a bit like All Saints Church in Houghton Regis, but not totally sure.
