Hi, If it is possible looking for help on great great grandparents. All that I have at the minute is listed below, any pointers or advice appreciated really stuck on all of my irish connections.

James Mullan c1844 Ireland
married to an Elizabeth Connelly, dont have marriage as yet
Children
Bridget Mullan 17/06/1866 Coothill, Cavan (details from IGI)
James Mullan 21/02/1864 Cootehill, Cavan (details from IGI)
Elizabeth Mullan 1864 who I know married a Henry Devin/Devine on the 26/09/1881 Londonderry. Aquired these details from one of the children's birth cert who was born in Scotland. When Henry and Elizabeth came over about 1882. Sorry this is all I have to go on. Kind Regards Ebony

I am certainly no expert.  You probably need to start with what you know.  I would take the IGI records, and try to obtain the birth certs from the GRO.  They may give you additional info, like townland where the birth occurred, etc.

I posted the following in another thread last week...

"You can use the IGI information for the siblings to obtain a copy of their birth records.  It may contain useful information to help you get more specifics on location.

You can obtain their records from the Superintendent Registrar in either Cavan town or Roscommon at --> http://www.groireland.ie/fees.htm

Midway down the page is the link to a page containing the needed form ("Apply for cert").  At the bottom of the page are the addresses you would need.

For a frame of reference, the turnaround for a request from the Boston area using the Cavan office is generally about 2 weeks time, and they've been quite helpful.

Once you have more specifics on the birth, you can attempt to pinpoint the RC Parish where further records may exist. --> http://www.catholicireland.net/pages/index.php?nd=60

My research has all been in the Diocese of Kilmore."

The church records may be your greatest source, but you need to find the right church.  It appears that the Drumgoon/Cootehill records go back to about 1829, so that's good news. (find listing of records here --> http://www.sierratel.com/colinf/genuki/CAV/)

There is also of course the Cavan Genealogical Research Centre (http://www.irish-roots.net/cavan.asp).  I've never used their services, but I believe they do have access to films of the church records, which may be helpful.  And they were quite pleasant when I visited last year at this time.

Good luck,
John

Hi Ebony,

I don't recall any Troughton,  but keep in mind that the Kilmore I referred to is a Roman Catholic Diocese consisting of multiple RC Parishes.  The RC Parishes overlay/overlap with Civil Parishes. Most of my family  are from the parish of Ballintemple (both RC and civil).

There are both RC and civil parishes of Kilmore within the Kilmore diocese.  In addition, there are some Townlands named Kilmore.
