WDYTYA Series 4: #6 Graham Norton
« on: Thursday 11 October 07 12:45 BST (UK) »

I can't find a link for tonight's programme. I'm really looking forward to this - after 60+ years thinking of myself as English and Scottish, I've now found possible Irish links - and have no idea how to access the information.

Hopefully tonight will give me a few clues!

I was going to say Norton does not sound very Irish but apparently he was born Graham Wilson, which sounds even less Irish.

I think you'll find that most of them were destroyed in a fire in the public records office!  Undecided

Is this the link you were looking for? (Contains a 3 para synopsis of the programme, so anyone who wants it to be a complete surprise shouldn't click on link)

I suppose it makes it easier to find your family in a later census if you know they will all be the same ages and at the same place.

Whoops - I found a site that said he was born Graham Wilson so this Wiki might clarify the situation.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graham_Norton

He was born Graham Walker, except it confusingly says he was born in Dublin under the photo but says he was born in Cork in the opening sentence.

Yes, indeed - as does this (longer) one, also from the BBC:

It'll be interesting to see how they trace his family, if there are so few remaining records - there may be a few tips the rest of us can pick up. Although I expect he'll be flown to Ireland where helpful records office staff will magically produce all the evidence!

Still, it might give some clues as to what's left - and how to find it if you CAN'T get to Ireland.

I've really enjoyed this series so far because they've all been so different, so I'm looking forward to a night in front of the telly with a box of chocolates I treated myself to!

Speak to everyone later.
