The North Wales BMD has a Sarah Jane Stephens, Wrexham (included Bersham), 1870. Local ref is WM/035/88.

The GRO would give the quarter but the local one can be obtained from Wrexham:

Thanks Gadget ... I am going to try and find all the Stephens b St Agnes, Cornwall in Wales in 1871 ...I am sure they are related to Bry's Nicholas Stephens....

Hopefully Bry's 1881/91 Scottish census records will add up to the Cornish and Welsh ones... off to find out what happened to Sarah b 1860/1 St agnes

Bessy Stephens
June q 1863, truro

I cannot find a suitable birth for Sarah b 1861 ...she was 2 months in 1861 census...

Yep Gadget

If they are the right family ...In 1861 in St Agnes Nicholas and Ann had 3 kids ... William, Mary Ann, and Sarah (2 months)

1871 In Wales ..they have William (right age), Mary Ann (off by 2 or 3 years), BESSY and another SARAH  who is 1 ... have to find the death of Sarah (2 months in 1861)

Hope I am making sense  Undecided

oops - it's Sarah not Bessy!

It might be that she died on the way to North Wales and that's a difficult one to find (probably impossible) if she did  Undecided

Nicholas and Ann had to have made their way to Wales after 1863 when Bessy was born .... is there a death of a Sarah b c 1861 in Wales ?? The only death for a Sarah Stephens is  March 1865 St Germans, Cornwall.

we need to find Sarah's death .... Cry

Sorry Deb - I modified my last post - she could have died anywhere on the way.

The Welsh BMDs are with the English ones. They could have gone by train (say via Bristol) or road or even canal  Undecided

That looks like the likely one Gadget ...

Bry ...will have to confirm all of this with the 1881 and 1891 census details ... there was supposedly another child b c 1873 in Scotland ... hopefully bry's details of this family, have a child , Sarah J, b in Wales ...

The Stephens that I've got in Lasswade, Scotland on the 1881 don't tie in with any of the details here except son William:

691 Ed 9 Page 18 - Lasswade, Midlothian

William Stephens, hd, 24, coal miner, b. England
Jane, wife, 24, b. Lasswade
Nicholae, 2, b. Lasswade
Alexander L, 4 mths, b. Lasswade

No deaths for Nicholas 1871-1881 in the North Wales BMDs

Can you find Nicholas and Ann ... below

Hi Deb,

Yes I have Nicholas & Ann in 1891. They are staying with their married daughter in Lasswade, Midlothian. I cannot locate the family in 1871, the earliest I have them in Scotland is the birth of daughter Susan in 1873.

Ann is at the same address in 1881 (without Nicholas) as in 1891

Cheers

They're living with Sarah Jane - their daughter, now married to a John Cochrane in 1891 - both aged 58

20 Ramsay Square, Lesswade 691 Ed 10 page 25

I'll have another look but I have to go soon.

Thanks Gadget

Nicholas is supposedly in the USA ...not sure where though

I think the only way to confirm all of the children (except William and Mary Ann , who were with their parents in 1861, cornwall) is for Bry to order birth certs of Bessy  (truro 1863) and Sarah J (1870 , Wales ).
