"Soligen" from Hamburg 1891
« on: Saturday 13 October 07 05:41 BST (UK) »

Hi there
Does anyone have access to the passenger list from the "Soligen" which departed Hamburg, 30/1/1891 and arrived in SA 30/3/1891?
I'm looking for my ggrandparents and their children.......my great aunt is listed as being born on board on 1/4/1891.
I've accessed the passsenger list through Ancestry.com but couldn't find them!
My ggrandparents were Johann & Jeanette WEILER & the children were Bertha, John, Catherine, Nicholas & Caroline (born on board). They came out from Luxembourg & settled in SA.
I've got all the Oz records but would love to see if any more info is contained in the passenger list.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Annie,

How good is your source ? are you sure this is "Soligen".  ?

A german ship could well be called Solingen, a city in Germany, with a reputation for cutlery(solingen steel, the Sheffield of Germany)

just a thought,

Good luck,

This may be the same list from ancestry - presumably the ship went on to NSW?

SA archives seem the most likely source

Thanks Trish
Yes, according to "The Observer" newspaper of the times, the ship continued on to the eastern states after Adelaide.
I'll check out the State Archives when I go there next (didn't realise they covered that time period!!)
Once again, thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Hi Annie,

Try Cora Nunn Shipping List, this should give a lot of information.

Annie

I did notice most of their lists stopped at 1886 - and was bemoaning the fact that this always seems to happen to me  Sad  when I saw the 1888-1892 mention - wonder what happened in 1887?  That will probably be a year I want one day  Roll Eyes
