Hi all,
I am trying to find any marriage record for a Joseph STODDART and a Margaret Ann PORTEOUS. It would also be great if there were any birth/baptism records for either of these individuals as I do not yet know who their parents were.
Joseph was born in Carlisle c1794 and Margaret was born in Wigton c1793.
Their first child was born in Allonby in 1827 so I am assuming that the marriage will be just before this.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Many thanks, Stephen

Hi Stephen.
Have you checked Wigton for a marriage? I know they'd moved by the time the first child was born, but Margaret Ann was born there and in Pigot's directory 1829, there is still a David Porteous tallow Chandler. Could she have married in her home town?
I'll keep my eyes open in the area.
Good luck
Emms

Thanks Emma,
It's very possible that they married in Wigton or Carlisle. Would it be possible for you to check either of these?
Cheers, Stephen

Hi Stephen
Yes, I can soon check those out or anything else that springs to mind. I wasn't sure what you'd checked already.
It may be a few days until I get in again, but I'll get back to you.
Best wishes
Emms.
