Mill of Alvah, Banff
« on: Saturday 13 October 07 22:14 BST (UK) »

Can somebody please tell me whether Mill of Alvah in 1806 was a district in Banff or a single dwelling house and, if the latter, if it still exists.   I have a record of an ancestor's birth and baptism in 1806 in which Mill of Alvah is mentioned.  I would appreciate help in locating this place.    grossan

Mill of Alvah is a small settlement still marked on the modern OS map in the parish of Alvah in Banff.  A search at http://www.streetmap.co.uk/ will find it for you.

Also have a look at the earliest OS map you can at:

http://www.old-maps.co.uk

to see what was located there (suggest that you search for Kirktown of Alvah and scout around).

Little Nell - thanks for your reply.   I have now been able to locate the area on the old OS map which has helped me to put people to places - my thanks    grossan
