1910 marriage Alsop/Cookson/Knot who was the gooseberry?
« on: Sunday 14 October 07 15:58 BST (UK) »

Harry Alsop of St. Matthews Parade, Kingsthorpe 1901 was born 1868 in Glasgow. Looking for his marriage I found an entry on FreeBMD for Sept qtr 1910, but the page lists also a Charles G Cookson & May I Knott with no 2nd female to match the 2 males. There was also a Harry Alsop born in Northamptonshire in 1885. Can anyone tell me who the other possible bride should be on the page & which Harry is getting married in 1910?

Nothing definite can be done.

Look for births in the area 1911 onwards to see which births turn up with the MMN to match...
Still not 'proof' though.

Thank you Pauline, I shall try that - possibly a middle name brought down from previous generations might clinch the deal. Thanks.

You will probably have to be patient and wait for the rest of 1910 to be transcribed.

However if you can find a birth then the mother's surname will be included and you can now use the images on Ancestry to search for the marriage.

The simple solution of course is to order the certificate for the marriage.

Thanks David. This is a distant branch of my tree & in the top 100 list of certificates I shall buy when the money tree blossoms, it is fairly well down. However I have learned that patience pays off & often information comes along which supplies you with an answer when you are least expecting it! Many thanks for your time.

Hi Kayzee,

Well it looks like Mr Cookson married Miss Knott!!!

KNOTT ( Grin) that it helps you find who Harry Alsop married....but.

There are two births in Northampton with the surname Cookson and a mothers maiden name of Knott. March 1917 and Sept 1920.

Suppose you could always check Alsop births from Sept 1911 in Nton to see what the mothers maiden names are and then see if any match up to the ref number of the 1910 marriage  Wink

And here you go Kayzee, the missing wallflower is Louisa Dawson(there are loads  Wink of Alsop/Dawson babies in Nton from 1911 onwards) she also has the Sept 1910 marriage ref of 3b page 153.

Hope that helps.....and saves you £7 too  Grin
