Hello again Kay
I have Charles's obituary from the Chronicle and Echo in 1951; it's quite simple from his wife and children.
I will look for a will of George Dawson, it's something I hadn't thought of.  Thanks for everything.  You have been of more help than you realise as it's good to have a listening ear!
Kind regards
Janet

Hello Kay

I did a search of The Mercury and The Herald newspapers last week but found no mention of either Alsop/Cookson marriage.

I have noticed something interesting, though sad, about Charles's life just before he married; his stepfather and his landlady both died in Jan 1906, his landlord died in Jan 1907 and his mother died in Feb 1907.  As Charles had lived in his lodgings for at least 11 years these four deaths must have left him feeling very sad.  Sad

Hi Janet,
Sorry for the delayed reply. I've been off-line since early March (we are in a broadband notspot!), but have just installed a satelite dish & can finally come out of the wilderness! Still a few problems with my e-mail but hope to sort it out in the next week.
Poor Charles was having a bad time of it & I know how he felt but we have to persevere don't we. Thank you for letting me know of your searches.

Welcome back to the world of communications, Kay!  Grin

I have been in contact with Charles's half brother's daughter.  She is 83 and wants to know about her family history as her dad died when she was 4.  She remember's 'Uncle Charlie and Auntie May'.  It's wonderful to talk to someone who actually remembers them. It sort of brings the past a bit closer.  She was able to tell me what my granddad was really like; that's lovely because I never met him.

Best wishes

Dear Kayzee,

I came across by chance a post of yours from 2007, in which you asked about descendants of Frederick  Alsop and Marie Julie Lienard.  I can't find this post again; the search facility takes me to entirely different names, so I am using this discussion to get in touch.  I am a descendant of theirs, since my parents were Brenda Alsop and Fergus McCleary, who were also mentioned in your 2007 post.  Would you like any more information?

John McCleary

PS  My apologies to Janet, who seems to be interested in a slightly different topic, for entering the discussion!

Hi John,
How nice to hear from you & what a surprise after all this time.  I have had a long break from family history recently, but your message has inspired me to open a few folders & the interest is still there!
I'm especially interested in photos of Fred & Marie or any of Fred's siblings. I can possibly help you in return with a direct ancestry back to the mid 1600s on the Alsop side.
I will send you a personal message as I think there is far to much to say here.

Dear Kay,

Thank you for your reply.  I tried to access your personal message, but was confronted by a page which said "You are not allowed to view personal messages"!  No doubt I have done something wrong, which is likely as I am very new to the whole concept of "posting"; it took me hours to register myself in the first place.  Do you have any idea what I should do?  I will begin by looking at Frequently Asked Questions and see whether that helps.

Meanwhile best wishes,

John

You are not doing anything wrong.  It is just that you need to make three posts before the personal message system is available to you.
This is to prevent the system being abused.
