Bit confused

Hi all,
        Dont know if im being to cautious but looked at my e-mails today and ive just received one from rootschat about a relative i was looking into a few months back. The person who sent it me only registered on here yesterday, have not posted anything on here just sent me this pm. Is this normal. i just need reassuring please.

my first thought, is that the 'newbie' found the name through a search engine, and joined RootsChat, deliberately, to get in touch with you.

Is s/he supplying info., asking for info., just saying hello, ....  ??

The person doesn't know your personal email address, has just sent you a pm through rootschat, so the email would not have come from the 'newbie', just from rootschat telling you about the pm,  - you may have found someone who can help with your research, I'd just pm them back and find out!!

Thanks Bob and Barbara for your Replys. Didnt mean it to sound as if i was ungrateful or anything i was just a bit concerned as it was a while back i posted about it on here. Bob they did send me info on the 1901 census about my family and i sent a reply to say thank-you for it.  Sorry  if what i wrote sounded bad it was only me being a bit to curious i suppose. Must be getting old.

Hi Sue,

What you wrote didn't sound bad at all, don't worry!  Anyway it's always good to be cautious, but in this case I don't think you need worry, especially as they have sent you some information.  Your personal information on Rootschat is confidential, so the only way they can know your real name (as opposed to your username on here) or your email address is if you tell them.

People new to Rootschat will be able to see old postings, and if they find some that interest them, and if they think they can help, that's a good thing.
