Hi
Have you looked on the 1881 census which is free to search at www.familysearch.org for John Sergeson
If you know his wife's maiden name you can also look on the 1881 for her. This is a possible marriage from freebmd
September qtr 1889
Sergeson John Liverpool 8b 249 Thomas Jane Liverpool 8b 249
Lancashire BMD have this entry for 1889 but I have queried the transcription
THOMAS Jane GEORGESON John Liverpool, St. Simon Liverpool 2129LP/7/416
Who were William Ashton's parents?
We would not be able to find anything specifically about Ellen Sergeson as she was born after the 1901 census
Who were Albert Burns parents and was Albert born in Liverpool

Re: William Ashton and Albert Burns
If you get copies of their marriage certs - you will at least have their fathers names which could help to trace them on the 1901
This is from Lancashire BMD but can't find Ashton
1925 SERGESON Ellen BURNS Albert West Derby, Register Office or Registrar Attended Liverpool REG_WD/433/126

That is the right spelling of Spurgeon Street
I've found this 1871 entry for 13 John's Place Toxteth Park- all surname SERGESON. Born Liverpool unless shown differently

And also this one which is indexed as SERGRSON

Michael Sergeson married Elizabeth Cosgrove September qtr 1853 West Derby 8B 717
Can't find marriage for James & Helena but they may possibly have married in Ireland before coming to Liverpool
If you are checking any records at any time - consider the spelling as SERGISON as well as I have noticed a few entries for that surname
