Burial in Barnet?
« on: Monday 01 October 07 12:43 BST (UK) »

Hi

I am wondering if anyone can help with finding a burial of someone who died in Barnet please?

I haven't sent for her certificate as yet as I hoped she may be found on a CD or something?

Her name was Florence Annie BRINSON and she died age 85 in Barnet in the 2Q 1971.

Would she also be found in an electoral roll or any directories.  I do not know what her occupation was I'm afraid, so this is just a shot in the dark.

Anything would be interesting.

Many thanks

Hi,

Florence should be on the electoral roll and might be in the telephone directory.

Are you sure of a burial;  could there have been a cremation?

The death certificate only records details about the death not burial/cremation.

Hi Nanny Jan

Thanks for replying.  No, I don't know if she was buried or cremated I'm afraid.

I've heard there is a burial CD(?) and I wondered if she could be found on it - somewhere in Barnet, a bit of a long shot but I had to ask.

Regards

Hi C,

You could ask for a look-up on the National Burial Index; I'm not sure of the dates that it covers.  Worth a try!

You can check coverage of the National Burial Index here:

http://www.ffhs.org.uk/projects/nbi/nbi-coverage.php

There is very little for the 20C and most records as late as 1971 are probably only still available at the local cememtery/crematorium and/or local council offices it it is a local borough cemetery/crematorium.

Local street directories/electoral registers will be with the main local library/local studies archive.  Although street directories often have a name index, electoral registers are usually arranged in chronological order with no name index so you would need an address - or possibly a very long search.

Hi cranstone

As your enquiry is relatively recent, it might be worth contacting the cemetery/crematorium directly as the same person, Maurice Salmon, appears to deal with both types of enquiry. London Borough of Barnet funerals take place at Hendon Cemetery and Crematorium.

Hope this helps

Hi

Thanks to all of you for your help.  I have emailed Barnet cemetery although I didn't have a name, so thank you for his name.  I will give it a few days and if no-one replies I will re-email using the contact name.

Hi There,

Have you had any luck Huh  I am in regular contact with the secretaries of both Bells Hill and Christchurch Cemeteries, both in Barnet.  I can soon find out if she is buried in either one.

Hi Nimrod

No, I haven't had any luck in finding her yet, I am also trying to find two other members of her family but do not know if the places they died in are covered by Barnet???

Hendon and Edmonton?

They are:

Issac K Brinson died Hendon 1926
and
Annie Brinson - died Edmonton - 2Q 1910

Many thanks for asking for me.

Hi,

One of my rellies died in Hendon District and was buried in Barnet so it is possible being a neighbouring District.  In fact, one died in Cheltenham but was brought home to Barnet to be interred with her Husband so anything is possible in terms of burial.

Have you actually contacted both Bells Hill and Christchurch?  If so , have you had a reply?  I m just trying to confirm whether you have iliminated both places before I contact them. I can check out the other two for you at the same time.

   Regards

   Nimrod
