RELF children emigrated to canada 1930`s
« on: Wednesday 17 October 07 19:05 BST (UK) »

 :)Hello,

The family rumour says that Violet M. Relf of London had 2 children in 1930`s and they went to Canada with their father a Lieutenant Commander? I can`t find any record of a marriage of Violet to anyone during the 1930`s or the births of any possible illegitimate children born to her so the children must be registered under their father`s name. I don`t know anything else as this information came out at a family funeral and no one knew anything about it! I would be grateful for any ideas how to trace these children. Thanks.

Welcome to rootschat!
It is hard enought to find people after the censuses, but you are asking us to figure out the surnames as well ...haha...
If you look at this site, only adult Relfs immigrated in that time period...
http://www.collectionscanada.ca/archivianet/immigration-1925/001012-100.01-e.php
so you will probably have to solve this one on your own or wait for more family stories to light...It may also be a mixed up tale, as that can happen as well...
Meanwhile....
Hope that you have lots of searches for ancestors, as that is what we do on rootschat... Grin  J.J.

[Thanks for your reply. I know about Violet but wonderered if there are any emigration lists or ship passenger lists anyone knows about where I could look for a lieutenant commander with 2 small children in about 1940 incase they left to escape the bombing in London. I know it`s a long shot but have tried all the lieutenants on the postal register in 1935 and am out of ideas.]

There were children sent here to Canada during WWII, but without knowing what the surname might be will be hard  Undecided

I was was thinking that they must have become Canadian citizens at some point and it would be registered that their place of birth was England. The rumour also says they were twin girls so that might help. Are there lists of people who became Canadian citizens in the 1940`s?
