Can anyone tell me if there was a 1881 census in NewZealand
I have Adam Mackenzie ( McKenzie ) living in Mornington Dunedin and wondered if there was any census around that time
!877 to !888
This is the time I believe the family were out there
others in the family were
Wife Isabella Birnie ( nee Watson ) born Pitsligo Scotland
son James Watson McKenzie
Jessie Mackay McKenzie
Minnie Henry McKenzie
Eleanor Isabella Munro McKenzie

There is an adam McKenzie in 1881 electoral roll
at Long Valley, Dunstan Electorate, Farmer

Does this show Adam born in Scotland
that is where my Adam came from
on the birth certificates from New Zealand of his children he is a storeman

I have all the leads you might say
I have the ships log of them going out from Glasgow in 1877 the death certificate of the baby who died at sea ,my granda was born just after they arrived at Port Chalmers also the next baby died William in Dunedin I found the plot where he is buried ,and i have all the little ones birth certificates also a little about the school where My grandfather and his sister Minnie went .and Adam took them according to this letter all in Mornington
I found Isabella his wife back in Scotland with James Jessie and Minnie in the Scotland 1891 census .
Adam must of died in New Zealand along with Eleanor the baby or maybe sailing back to the UK
I just want to find his death but cannot
I thought if there was an 1881 census in New Zealand he might be there
The last baby was born 1888
Its a Long shot as Isabella came home between 1888 and 1891
She remarried in 1893 and had a daughter born 1895 and they named her Ormuz
Now I know Ormuz was the name of a ship that sailed from New Zealand to the UK but I cannot find any ships passenger list with Isabella and her family on
Its a mystery but then we all have them somewhere in our family tree
